Who runs Football IQ
Football IQ is an independent project, built and run in the UK by its founder, Charlie Waite, a lifelong football fan. It isn't owned by a media company or a betting firm.
Football IQ is not affiliated with or endorsed by any club, league, player or governing body. Their names are used only to describe the questions.
How the daily games are made
The daily games are made in four steps:
Drafted
An AI content assistant drafts each game two days ahead, following that game's written rules.
Checked by a second model
A second, independent AI model checks every answer and flags anything it can't confirm.
Checked against our rules
Automatic checks make sure the game is complete and follows its rules, and that the same player or theme hasn't run too recently.
Reviewed by the founder
Most evenings the founder reviews the next games and approves, changes or rejects them. A game nobody has reviewed by 12:00 the day before goes live only if it passed every automatic check.
A game that fails a check doesn't go live unless the founder checks it and approves it.
Trivia questions
Every answer on our trivia question pages is checked against sources, and each page shows the date its answers were last checked. Questions we can't verify are held back rather than published.
Where the data comes from
- Player careers, clubs and nationalities come from Wikipedia and Wikidata.
- Every game shows the date its data was correct (“Data correct as of”), because transfers and records keep changing.
- The 2026 World Cup match pages were generated automatically from API-Football match data.
Corrections
Football changes quickly and we sometimes get things wrong. If you spot a wrong answer, email charlie@camberco.co.uk with the game and the date. We check the source and fix it, and we aim to reply within 48 hours.
How the site is paid for
The website is free to play and is paid for by advertising. Football IQ Pro, a subscription, removes ads and unlocks the full archive and the Pro games.
