What is Timeline?

Timeline hands you six moments from one football story — a player's career, a manager's spell, a club's season or a tournament run — in the wrong order and asks you to put them right. Knowing the events is rarely the problem; knowing which came first is. It is a test of how well you have actually filed a story away rather than just recognising its highlights.

How to play Timeline

1. 1You are given 6 events from one football story — a career, a manager's spell, a club's season or a tournament — in random order.
2. 2Drag a card, or use its up and down arrows, to put them in chronological order.
3. 3Submit when you think the order is right.
4. 4You get 5 attempts. Each wrong one reduces your maximum score; the fifth ends the game and shows the right order.
5. 5Getting the perfect order on the first try earns maximum points.

Timeline strategy

Anchor on the events you are certain about and build outwards, rather than trying to order all six at once. An appointment, a debut or an opening match is usually the earliest entry, and a final, a sacking or a farewell the latest, so the ends are usually free. The difficulty lives in the middle — two results or two trophies within a couple of seasons of each other. When you genuinely cannot separate two events, place them adjacent in your best guess: if you are wrong, you are wrong by one position rather than scrambling the whole sequence.

• Appointments, debuts and opening matches usually come first — start there.
• Trophy wins and international milestones can help anchor the timeline.
• If two events seem close in time, focus on the ones you're certain about first.
