How to play 20 Questions

  1. Step 1: There is one secret footballer each day. Ask up to 20 questions that can be answered yes or no.

  2. Step 2: Ask about one thing at a time. "Is he…" means right now; "has he ever…" means his whole career.

  3. Step 3: Every Yes or No answer uses one question. Questions that aren't yes or no questions are never counted.

  4. Step 4: If the answer is Not sure, the question isn't counted, up to five times a game.

  5. Step 5: Make a guess whenever you like. A right guess wins; a wrong guess uses one question.

  6. Step 6: Your score is the number of questions you had left when you named him.

Why players love it

  • The playground game every football fan already knows, now with a new mystery player every day.
  • You decide the route: start broad with continent and position, or go straight for the club you suspect.
  • The share grid shows your run of yeses and noes without ever giving the player away.

Frequently asked questions

How does 20 Questions work?

Each day there is one secret footballer. You ask up to 20 yes or no questions, such as "Has he played in Spain?" or "Is he a defender?", and guess the player whenever you think you know. A right guess wins, and your score is the number of questions you had left.

Who answers the questions?

An AI model answers each question from a fact sheet about the day's player, built and checked against Wikipedia and official sources. Answers are AI generated and can be wrong. If an answer looks wrong, report it from the review after your game and we will check it.

Why is 20 Questions in beta?

It is the newest game on Football IQ and the first where an AI model gives the answers. While it is in beta we check reported answers, fix the fact sheets and tune the rules, so a few things may change.

What counts as a question?

Anything that can be answered yes or no about one fact, like his nationality, a club, a trophy or his position. Opinions, two questions in one, and asking for his name don't count and don't use up a question. To name a player, make a guess.

Is 20 Questions free to play?

Yes. Today's 20 Questions game is free in your browser at football-iq.app, with no download and no account needed. It is in the Football IQ app too, where today's game is free for everyone.
