What is 20 Questions?
20 Questions is the playground game with a footballer at the centre. Each day there is one secret player. You have twenty yes or no questions to work out who he is, then you name him. Ask about his country, his position, the clubs he has played for or the trophies he has won, and narrow the field one answer at a time. It is in beta: an AI model gives the answers, working from a fact sheet we build and check for each player.
How to play 20 Questions
- Each day has one secret footballer. Ask up to 20 questions that can be answered yes or no.
- Ask about one thing at a time. "Is he..." means right now; "has he ever..." means his whole career.
- Every Yes or No answer uses one question. Anything that isn't a yes or no question is never counted.
- If the answer is Not sure, the question isn't counted, up to five times a game. After that it is.
- Make a guess whenever you like. A right guess wins; a wrong guess uses one question.
- Your score is the number of questions you had left when you named him.
20 Questions strategy
Start wide and cut the field in half. Continent, position and whether he has retired rule out most players in three questions. Then move to specifics: a league, a country he played in, a trophy. Keep each question to one fact, because two facts in one question will be turned away. Use the tense on purpose: "is he" asks about right now, while "has he ever" covers his whole career, and that difference decides a lot of answers. Save your guesses for when you are fairly sure, since a wrong one costs a question.
- Questions that aren't counted: opinions, two questions in one, and asking for his name.
- Answers are AI generated and can be wrong. If one looks wrong, report it from the review after your game.
- A Not sure answer tells you the fact sheet doesn't cover it. Try a different angle.
- Your share grid shows your yeses and noes without giving the player away.
20 Questions: frequently asked questions
- How does 20 Questions work?
- Each day there is one secret footballer. You ask up to 20 yes or no questions, such as "Has he played in Spain?" or "Is he a defender?", and guess the player whenever you think you know. A right guess wins, and your score is the number of questions you had left.
- Who answers the questions?
- An AI model answers each question from a fact sheet about the day's player, built and checked against Wikipedia and official sources. Answers are AI generated and can be wrong. If an answer looks wrong, report it from the review after your game and we will check it.
- Why is 20 Questions in beta?
- It is the newest game on Football IQ and the first where an AI model gives the answers. While it is in beta we check reported answers, fix the fact sheets and tune the rules, so a few things may change.
- Is 20 Questions free to play?
- Yes. Today's 20 Questions game is free in your browser at football-iq.app, with no download and no account needed.
